Shooting ‘The Suicide’...

I have just finished shooting a scene for a short film called ‘The Suicide’ by Italian Director, Pietro Pinto; and can honestly say I have never worked with a finer cast and crew. Their professionalism, teamwork and united focus on their vision was a joy to be part of. Pietro is a larger than life character whose enthusiasm is infectious, and whose relationship with his Actors is a shining example of leadership, having a clear idea of his vision, whilst listening to every suggestion. I must also pay homage to the wonderful Actors with whom I worked. For me the task of acting is such a pleasure when your fellow cast members are so good at what they do, and it inspires me to rise and be the best I can be on set. So I thank all those in the production whose skill at their various disciplines provided me with so much material to work with; and I wish Pietro and his team every success with this, and their future projects.

In recounting my experience on this particular enterprise, there are two people to whom I must once again express my enormous gratitude. They are Colin David Reese and Ruggero Dalla Santa, who together run the Screen Acting Skills Workshops, and from whom this Actor learned everything he knows about acting in his favoured medium of camera. Located in beautiful Northern Italy, we actually shot our scene in a cave system, hewn out by human mining operations. The use of lighting, sound, set construction and location combined to create a truly surreal and dystopian setting. In particular, the use of camera to bring the desired results was demanding, and required me to draw upon many of the skills which Colin and Ruggero have taught me, and to combine them with a truly exceptional Cameraman and Director of Photography.

This has been the most enjoyable casting I have had since I came to acting; and I was delighted to be told by the Director that we smashed it, and exceeded his expectations. I am glad we all did our jobs, and wherever acting takes me in future, I will always be grateful to those people who make it possible for me.

Finally, this blog could never be complete without reference to the one person who, more than any other, continues to love and support me in this and every endeavour I undertake: my Wife, Karen.

Grazie Mille.
