Freddie Mercury was one of those unimaginable talents who light up humanity for a brief period and then, like an incredibly bright star in space, explode in a supernova and are gone; leaving you blinking your eyes and trying to comprehend the magnificent experience of what you just witnessed. For an Actor, the challenge of portraying someone like that must be incredibly daunting, and at the same time wonderful; but to actually pull it off requires something very special. Only a truly exceptional Actor could do justice to a truly exceptional character, and I believe Rami Malek was that man. My Wife and I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody at the pictures, and we both commented on how we felt as if we were actually watching Freddie Mercury on the screen. It was a wonderfully uplifting film which really did justice to this tortured, and yet brilliant human being, whose contribution to music, and to Mankind, will endure for all time.
So can I take this opportunity of saying how pleased I am that Rami Malek was honoured with the award of 'Best Actor In A Leading Role' at the Academy Awards last night; and indeed, with the BAFTA, and the other awards he has already won for the role. Never was recognition more justly deserved. Many Congratulations, Sir. Well Done...
