Well it turned out that my luck was really in, as I attended the workshop this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. Alex had really done his homework regarding the profiles of the people attending, and partnered people beforehand to work on given scenes. I felt it worked really well and I had an immediate rapport with the Actress who was my scene partner, as well as watching some very good work by other Actors, some of whom were brand new to acting, as they clearly gelled with each other to produce some amuzing, intense and sometimes touching scenes.
I think what I liked most of all is that Alex and his team have a refreshingly new approach to the industry. Geared primarily towards acting for camera, (which is my favourite medium), they seem acutely au fait with the fact that this is actually a business, and focus not only on the skills needed to act, but also on the skills needed to get cast as an Actor. How to prepare for and succeed in auditions, how to get an Agent, Spotlight and all the other issues which are the lot of the modern Thespian. It is an approach which is attracting the interest of some big names to their cause, and they already seem to have an impressive team in place.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend looking them up.
